Chapter Seven

The egg moved back and forth, back and forth, and then a tiny a crack appeared…
A younger Malevont stared intently at the egg, watching the crack grew bigger and bigger. A little reptilian head popped out from the eggshell and the dragonling’s huge eyes saw his father for the first time…
After the little dragonling managed to remove himself from the egg, he gave feeble roar and Malevont’s heart melted. He turned to see Maran, a slender black dragon smiling with him. Both their hearts filled with happiness. Malevont smiled with amusement when his son tries to fly with his pair of wings (of course, they were too small to support his weight). So instead, the little dragon began to chase his tail.
Malevont rubbed his head against his son’s head lovingly; the latter did the same thing.
“Hello, Zmey,” he greeted warmly. Zmey... he named his son Zmey.
Malevont was very proud of his son. Zmey would force him to play games with and he is always restless. He has a feisty attitude and he would pretend to hiss or roar, to impress his father. He is too young to breathe fire, but he flew successfully after two months he was born. The dragonling is so small and he is no bigger than a pony. But since Zmey has a habit to wander off, Malevont and Maran had to keep both eyes on him so he wouldn’t get hurt.
Five months passed, Malevont was very close to Zmey and he loved him with all his heart. Until that fateful day…
Malevont and Maran were taking a nap in the cave, when Zmey went down the mountains, far away from home. He saw a nearby village, and burning with curiosity goes to see what it is like.
Five men saw the baby dragon coming and they pointed to it excitedly.
“Look, it’s a dragon!” said one of them.
“I heard you get paid highly for capturing one,” said another one, watching the dragonling greedily.
“Well, what are waiting for?” asked the third villager.
All of them grabbed nets and clubs and they ran toward Zmey. Zmey became frightened when he saw the villagers surrounding, holding clubs like weapons. Then a net was thrown on him and he gave a frightened cry, “Papa!” before the men overtook him…
***
Malevont woke up, and he gave a big yawn as he stretched himself. He looks around the cave, and he found that Zmey is missing.
“Zmey? Where are you, Zmey?” he called out. Then he began to feel uneasy. Something is wrong, terrible wrong…
“Zmey!” he shouted. He ran out the cave. It was sunset; the sky is red like blood. He flew all over the mountains, looking for his lost son. Where is Zmey? Where is his son?
“ZMEY!!”
Then he spotted the village and beyond the village, he saw five men walking from a pole. There was something hanging from the pole, but he couldn’t make out what it is.
He swoops down quietly and hid behind two large trees. As the men walked by, he could hear them saying,
“… why did you do it, Sam?”
“He bit me.”
“But we could have a thousand gold pieces if you hadn’t beaten him.”
“Who cares about the gold? The little beast had it coming…”
As soon they were out from sight, Malevont goes to the pole standing alone. As he came nearer, he stopped when a horrible sight met his eyes: Zmey’s corpse. He had been decapitated, and was hanging upside down by the ankles and had been split open down the torso like a deer. His head was lying at the foot of the pole, his eyes staring into nothing.
How long has been Malevont been standing there, he doesn’t remember. Malevont stared at his son’s dead body and face before tears flowed down his tears. He threw back his head and gave a thunderous cry of sorrow.
He remembered seeing the men from the village earlier and his sorrow soon turned to blind hate and rage. He doesn’t know remember what happened next, but he recalled destroying the village, burning everything down, and killing all those who lived there… the men… and the women… and the children…He hated them! They killed the one he loved most! They were animals! And he slaughtered them like animals!
Then after the bloody massacre, he burned his son’s corpse and never spoke of him since then. And it was since then; he hated humans and vowed he would eliminate them until he dies…

Malevont turned in his sleep as he dreamt of his unhappy memories. A fat tear flowed down his cheek…

End of Chapter 7
Here is my seventh chapter. This is probably the saddest chapter by far. Poor Malevont...
